Who We Are

Clean Power Alliance (CPA) is Southern California’s locally operated not-for-profit default electricity provider for 38 communities within Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the 4th largest electricity provider in the State of California. We provide clean renewable energy at competitive rates to over three million residents and businesses through approximately one million customer accounts.

What You’ll Do

CPA seeks organized and highly motivated students, recent graduates, and young professionals interested in municipal clerk operations and compliance with state and local laws pertaining to public meetings. Through this internship, you will learn about public meeting administration, including the preparation of agenda packets, maintaining public records, and change management as it pertains to software implementation.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to build relationships, gain insights, and develop professional skills in a dynamic and collaborative environment. CPA internships are typically for a length of 12 weeks, up to 25 hours/week (no term is guaranteed).

Who You’ll Work With

The Board Clerk’s Office Intern will report to our Clerk of the Board and work closely with our Deputy Clerk of the Board. Interns will also interact with other members of CPA’s senior management team, staff from various departments within CPA, and elected officials.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Microsoft Teams, and Adobe Pro Software 
  • Ability to understand and carry out a variety of both verbal and written instructions in an independent manner 
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality 
  • Task-focused: capable of working with a high degree of accuracy, organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize 
  • Familiarity with local government operations and public administration is a plus, but not required 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and editing Board Clerk standard operating procedures, including guides and “how-to’s” for CPA’s Agenda Management Platform, OneMeeting. 
  • Assist with the migration of CPA’s public meeting videos from YouTube to CPA’s Meeting and Agendas webpage.
  • Assist staff with maintaining accurate records of Board and Committee meetings, including minutes, policies, resolutions, and other official documents 
  • Provide general administrative support to the Board Clerk’s office 

 

Qualifications  

  • Candidates should have recently completed or be in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree with a preferred focus in public administration, public policy, communications, journalism, science, or another relevant area of study.
  • Work or volunteer experience is a plus, but not required.  

 

Work Location

This position is a Hybrid role and requires attendance in our downtown Los Angeles office 2- 3 days per week on days determined by CPA, with work location on the remaining days either in office or remote. All interns are required to work during CPA’s office hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:30pm PST. 

 

Benefits

Internship compensation ranges from $18.00-$25.00/hour, with exact compensation to be determined by Clean Power Alliance, dependent on skills and experience. This is a part-time/temporary position. Interns are only eligible for mandated benefits, such as sick pay, workers’ compensation, and Medicare contributions.
